“Thin client technology is ideal for higher education, which is perhaps why colleges and universities represent a significant portion of our customer base,” says Joe Makoid, President, Devon IT.

Devon IT, Inc., a leading alternative desktop computing company, today announced it will showcase its newly launched TC2 thin client, the industry’s smallest desktop access device, and its SafeBook™ LVO mobile thin client laptop in IBM booth #1101 at the EDUCAUSE 2008 Annual Conference. The event will be held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, from October 28-31.

EDUCAUSE, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to advance higher education by promoting the use of information technology, attracts 4,000 attendees to its annual conference. The event brings together education and IT personnel from more than 30 countries. Devon IT will demo its green TC2 thin client and SafeBook LVO – built on the Lenovo R61 ThinkPad platform – in IBM’s booth during exhibition hours.

“Thin client technology is ideal for higher education, which is perhaps why colleges and universities represent a significant portion of our customer base,” says Joe Makoid, President, Devon IT. “IT personnel are at times stretched to the limits, as traditional desktop PCs spread across campuses are difficult to manage and extremely expensive. Thin clients provide a breath of fresh air with initial and total cost savings, increased security and manageability, and lower energy consumption. We are excited to share our technologies with and learn from the top IT firms in the world at EDUCAUSE 2008.”

The TC2 thin client is an ideal desktop replacement for educational institutions looking to downsize their infrastructure and cut costs. It is available with a VIA Eden 400 MHz processor, consumes only 8-9 watts, connects to a variety of servers, and is RDP, ICA and Xen and VDI capable. The SafeBook LVO is identical to the Lenovo R61 ThinkPad but has no hard drive, runs seamlessly on the entire Lenovo R61 ThinkPad platform, and is compatible with everything from docking stations to accessories.

Both products will be available for demo at IBM booth #1101. For more information about the EDUCAUSE 2008 Annual Conference, or to register for the event, visit http://net.educause.edu/e08/Registration/14699.
