Management of Thin Client and VDI Solutions unified through most advanced platform available

King of Prussia, PA, November 15, 2011 – Devon IT, a leading provider of thin client and VDI hardware and software solutions, today announced its latest release of the industry-leading Echo™ thin client management platform.

Devon IT’s Echo™ thin client management software version 4 is a unique and powerful software product, developed exclusively by Devon IT that combines thin client management capabilities with connection control features. Echo 4™ joins all of the features and function of previous versions, along with user interface and scalability enhancements required by the world’s largest VDI deployments.

“With this latest release of Echo™ we have combined the feature, function, and scalability requirements of Dell as well as our end user customers,” noted Joe Makoid, President, Devon IT. “This new and powerful platform is unique in that it is currently managing customer VDI environments ranging from 100 desktops to global implementations in the hundreds of thousands.”

All VDI and thin client devices that run DeTOS or Devon IT’s WES operating systems can be managed by Devon IT’s Echo™ thin client management software. Echo™ management software automates the distribution of settings and connections to the thin client terminals, enabling system and desktop administrators to create or copy new arrangements of settings, connections, and disk images to tailor the IT environment to their needs. Among the many available settings that can be utilized was the ability to apply a password for the DeTOS control panel that prevented the end users from altering or creating connections, giving administrators greater ability to prevent end user error.

Devon IT Echo™ thin client management software version 4 offers the ability to:
• Manage next-generation DeTOS 7.0.4 thin clients, including Dell FX130, Dell FX170, and all Devon IT devices
• Manage Microsoft Windows Embedded thin clients: Manage connections, settings, and images for Devon IT thin clients running WES7 and WES09

Echo Features include:
• Scalability to manage very large VDI deployments in multiple locations
• Centralized Control – Add, delete, or change software and configuration without visiting each user’s desktop device
• Intuitive new UI with Web-based Management Console – Easy for administrators to learn quickly and use, and is accessible from any device on the network
• Backup/Restore – Backup creates a snapshot of the current management state that can be restored later via the Restore feature. This allows for disaster recovery, as well as persistence of management configuration and device inventory following management software upgrades
• Virtualized – Devon IT Echo™ thin client management software is distributed as a virtual machine. All required components are contained in the virtual appliance and there is no need to install a 3rd party web server or database
• Profiling – Ability to create and assign profiles to easily provision the thin clients’ configuration and role
• Event Logging – Communication events are recorded and can be searched for in the Web-based GUI
Echo 4™ also offers a wide range of cloning capabilities such as:
• Connections – Devon IT Echo™ thin client management software allows you to configure how your thin clients connect to your servers. You can create different types of connections, store them within the Devon IT Echo™ thin client management software database, and then apply them to other clients
• Thin Client Settings – These include display, sound, keyboard, mouse, printer, appearance, time, agent password, persistence, and network connections. Thin client management software allows you to clone these settings from one thin client, store them within the Echo ™ thin client management software version 4 database, and then apply them to other clients
• Complete Images – Devon IT Echo™ thin client management software allows you to perform full disk image cloning of your thin clients. Images can be stored on file servers and accessed using FTP or NFS protocols

“Is Dell World the Comdex of the modern era?”

Comdex, the computer show launched in Las Vegas in the early 80s for computer dealers, grew to be the most important showcase of computer technology for the masses. The show grew to staggering attendance numbers of 200,000 plus by the mid 90s. Like all good things, Comdex came to an end in the early 2000s, and was replaced by a variety of smaller, more specialized shows.

Two weeks ago, Dell launched its inaugural Dell World. While I was there, I became reminiscent of the Comdex days. I had to step back and ask myself, “Is Dell World the Comdex of the modern era?” While Dell World is on a smaller scale than Comdex was, it clearly showcased a well-rounded and expansive list of technology. Technology from Dell and its partners included: networking gear, servers, PCs, end point devices, Database (Oracle and MSFT), software (Oracle, MSFT, Dell, Citrix, VMware, Salesforce and others) storage, and all kinds of peripherals.

Dell World also had more headliners than Woodstock with iconic luminaries Steve Ballmer, Marc Benioff, and Paul Maritz who were welcomed by none other than Michael Dell himself.

Dell World as the new Comdex might be a crazy notion, but here’s to Dell, one of our great American companies. Dell is not only expanding its product reach, but remembering how it got there by staying in the business it helped create – PCs! Thanks for putting on a great show in Austin!

New Industry Initiative to Enable Millions of New High-performance, Low-cost HDX Ready Devices

BARCELONA, Spain–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Today, at Citrix Synergy™, the conference where cloud computing, networking and virtualization meet, Citrix (NASDAQ:CTXS) announced a new “Citrix HDX™ Ready System-on-Chip (SoC)” initiative, designed to enable an entirely new generation of devices to deliver high-definition virtual apps and desktops at an unprecedented low cost using the company’s market-leading HDX technology. By incorporating Citrix HDX technology directly into silicon, the new program will expand the market for virtual apps and desktops beyond traditional computing devices like PCs, tablets and smartphones. For the first time ever, non-traditional devices like network monitors, phones, smart keyboards, consumer set-top boxes, shop floor equipment, kiosks and hospital workstations-on-wheels will be able to display virtual apps and desktops directly, without the need for an a full PC at the endpoint (see graphic).

Unlike alternative approaches, this is not just a protocol accelerator that gets added to existing devices. It is, in fact, a full computing system – including Citrix HDX technology – delivered as a single chip to device manufacturers. As a result, the program is expected to dramatically reduce the cost of high-definition zero clients, ultimately breaking the sub-$100 price point. The first devices using the new HDX System-on-a-Chip technology are expected to hit the market in early 2012.

Lighting Up an Entirely New Class of Devices

The market for traditional computing devices like PCs, tablets and smartphones is growing rapidly worldwide, fueling an increased demand for solutions like Citrix XenDesktop® and Citrix XenApp® to deliver business apps and desktops as a cloud-like service to any device, in any location. Citrix Receiver™, the company’s universal software client, makes it easy for end users to receive business apps, desktops and data, and is now available on more than one billion different devices – a number that grows ever day.

While the market for traditional computing devices will continue to expand rapidly, the Cloud Era is giving rise to the need for easy access to business apps and data from a far wider range of devices, locations and use cases – in the office, in the home, on the road, and in non-office work environments like factories, hospitals and field services. With the new HDX Ready System-on-Chip initiative, Citrix will enable a new class of device manufactures to tap into the vast array of business apps and data companies use today, increasing employee productivity, while reducing the cost of delivery.

Designed for Flexibility and Extensibility

Citrix worked closely with key partners like Texas Instruments and NComputing to design a highly flexible HDX SoC reference architecture that is based on industry standard, and leverages off-the-shelf components. In addition to powerful, hardware-assisted HDX optimizations, the SoC reference implementations will feature a flexible design that can be updated as Citrix advances its HDX technology, and as hardware vendors update their products. It is currently designed for ARM-based chipsets, and will be expanding in the future to support x86 based systems. (See partner support below)

Steve Lalla, Vice President and General Manager, Mobility Products and Solutions, Dell

“At Dell, we are committed to helping organizations simplify and accelerate desktop virtualization deployments so that workers can access their desktop data and applications anytime, from anywhere. We expect the Citrix HDX Ready SoC initiative to offer organizations of all sizes with a rich, high-definition virtual desktop and application delivery experience and provide customers with a superior desktop virtualization experience.”

Joe Makoid, President, Devon IT

“The SoC architecture has the best MIPS to dollars ratio in the industry and all the necessary computing capability coupled with a very attractive price point. With Citrix direction, the SoC’s performance as an HDX ready device makes it a perfect fit for today’s thin client computing needs and, just as importantly, it is inexpensive and low in power consumption. Devon IT strongly supports the Citrix HDX Ready SoC initiative and we look forward to bringing to market exciting new thin client devices based on the HDX Ready SoC architecture.”

Dieter Heiss, Head of Workplace Systems at Fujitsu Technology Solutions Fujitsu

Jeff Groudan, Director of Marketing for HP’s thin client group

“As the established market leader in thin clients, HP welcomes Citrix’s innovative HDX Ready System-on-Chip approach, which will help IT managers easily identify devices that work best with XenDesktop and XenApp. Citrix’s initiative is perfectly in line with HP’s strategy to deliver innovative, powerful, and easily managed thin computing solutions at attractive prices.”

Xiaohai Yuan, Vice President, Cloud Platform IT product line, HUAWEI

HUAWEI is excited to be part of Citrix HDX Ready System-on-Chip announcement. HUAWEI supports the concept of high performance, low cost HDX devices to drive the virtual desktop market. We are looking forward to working with Citrix on this initiative to provide our joint customers innovative new high definition experience devices.

Mr. Si-hwan Park, Vice President of LG Electronics Monitor Business

“Citrix HDX Ready System-on-Chips significantly raise the bar for client virtualization innovation.
Raj Dhingra, CEO, NComputing

“We applaud Citrix and embrace this initiative. The enterprise will too. Combining the power of Citrix HDX with NComputing Numo™ SoC virtual desktop technology will solve the cost and complexity issues of traditional thin clients, as well as provide the blueprint for future virtual desktop devices and form factors. Historic barriers to deploying VDI in the enterprise will be removed; at the same time paving the way for entirely new and more powerful VDI architectures and environments – to deliver a rich user experience, at radically lower costs of acquisition.”

Gerard Andrews, Product Manager for Thin Clients, Texas Instruments

“Cloud-based desktops and applications should be accessible by users where they want them and when they need them. TI is excited to help Citrix deliver on this vision by tightly integrating HDX technology with our high-performance SoCs. As a result of the initiative and collaboration, we expect to see innovative client products that will deliver uncompromised HDX experience.”

Frank Noon, Vice President of Sales at VXL

“VXL is delighted with this new initiative from Citrix. Having been involved in the Citrix Ready program since its inception, we and our customers appreciate real benefits from this association. We are committed to the SoC strategy and anticipate bringing a low-cost HDX Ready SoC device to market in the first quarter 2012.”

Citrix Quote

Sumit Dhawan, Group Vice President & General Manager, Receiver and Gateways Group

“Citrix continues to expand the power of virtual computing, enabling people to work and play from anywhere. The new HDX Ready System-on-Chip initiative is core to expanding ways for end users to access and use virtual apps and desktops with the highest levels of user experience on a whole new range of devices.
Free PC thin client tool offer for K-12 and higher education Dell customers

Free PC Thin Client Tool Offer for K-12 and Higher Education Dell Customers

King of Prussia, PA, October 17, 2011 – Devon IT, a leading provider of thin client and VDI hardware and software solutions, today announced at Educause the availability of free VDI Blaster™ software for any current Dell K-12 and higher education customers. This offer is valid for 20 copies of VDI Blaster™ available through November 30, 2011.

Devon IT VDI Blaster™ is the most popular software tool that enables a PC to act as a thin client currently available in the growing VDI market. VDI Blaster™ converts PCs into secure and centrally manageable desktop appliances, enables organizations of all sizes to realize benefits of thin client computing, and extends capital investment in PCs. VDI Blaster™ offers the benefits of a thin client at a smaller cost than a new device.

There are many benefits that VDI Blaster™ offers. Once a PC reaches the end of its useful life, VDI Blaster™ provides a simple plug-and-play solution to transform the PC into a thin client, which is still able to run Windows OS and applications. It also allows the PCs to return to their previous state if necessary. It minimizes the risk of switching to a fully virtualized architecture. VDI Blaster™ makes centrally-managed desktops possible, which reduces risk and allows for synchronized system updates. Devon IT VDI Blaster™ will connect thin clients to Microsoft Terminal Services, shared services, and virtual desktops from Citrix XenDesktop, Microsoft, or VMware View.

“Virtualized desktop computing is gaining momentum in the education market as a cost-effective, secure, and manageable way to gain the advantage of a thin client in PC environments, and Devon IT is leading the charge,” says Joe Makoid, President, Devon IT. “Our offer of free VDI Blasters will help schools of all sizes realize the benefits of a VDI solution. Devon IT is running this promotion to expose customers to the power of virtualizing desktops with Dell servers and storage. By centralizing the management of all client devices, users will reduce operational cost by up to 50% while implementing leading virtual desktop approaches. This promotion will allow customers to test the VDI environment with very little upfront cost.”

VDI Blaster™ can be managed by Devon IT Echo™ – a universal thin client management software platform. Devon IT Echo™ ties everything together and is compatible with the entire Devon IT software stack. It manages every device running Devon IT VDI Blaster™ software and comes included with each VDI Blaster™ license. Features include thin client system image updates, maintenance and management functionality, including inventory, status, and remote service as well as profiling, logging, and shadowing.

“Customers will be able to experience the value of some of the world’s largest banks and corporations are already seeing,” concluded Makoid. “We are committed to expanding the market potential for server-based and virtual technologies, and are thrilled to share this offer to Dell customers at Educause.”

School districts, colleges and universities should contact their Dell sales representative to confirm eligibility for this program. For more information about virtual desktop hardware and software solutions orderable through Dell, or to schedule a private demonstration, email info@devonit.com or call 610-757-4220 or 888-524-9382.

Organizations can unify VDI solutions around a single operating system and management platform to better realize advantages of desktop virtualization.

King of Prussia, PA, October 11, 2011 – Devon IT, Inc., a leading provider of thin client and VDI solutions, today announced the availability of thin client operating system customization services. These services give companies the ability to deploy a customized thin client desktop based on the existing Devon IT DeTOS or Windows Embedded Standard (WES) thin client software and Devon IT Echo™ Management software.

“Our customers are using thin desktop devices and our management platform to help them realize the full benefits of a VDI solution today,” commented Joe Makoid, President, Devon IT. “But as virtual desktop adoption continues to expand, organizations are developing complex environments that require customized images. Our new software services for our desktop operating systems will help streamline these unique virtual desktop deployments.”

“Dell OptiPlex thin client solutions offer seamless connectivity within a desktop virtualization infrastructure,” said Juan Vega, director, Dell Desktop Virtualization Solutions (DVS). “By utilizing Devon IT software services, customers can increase the flexibility of Dell devices, enabling even better productivity and collaboration. Dell DVS is committed to offering an end-to-end client virtualization solution that delivers world-class performance, manageability and ease of use.”

Customization services are offered for all existing and new Devon IT and Dell thin clients. With these customization services, customers can:
•	Add private encryption certificates for use with ICA and browsers.
•	Change branding and desktop wallpaper as well as the boot splash screen.
•	Add hardware support not offered by standard DeTOS or WES.
•	Customize zero configuration images for clients.
•	Customize default settings.

Additionally, PCs repurposed using VDI Blaster can also take advantage of Devon IT’s image customization services.

VDI Blaster™ and Devon IT operating systems come bundled with Devon IT’s Echo™ Thin Client Management Software. Echo™ is a unique and powerful software product developed exclusively by Devon IT that combines thin client management capabilities with connection management features. Customers use Echo™ to oversee large-scale hosted-desktop deployments and also to manage small groups of thin client terminals. Both software products are available through Dell.

“Unifying the management of disparate thin devices is crucial in VDI deployments,” explained Makoid. “Echo, combined with custom DeTOS or WES operating system images, helps our customers integrate their heterogeneous desktop devices.”

Devon IT will be demonstrating its industry-leading thin client software and hardware solutions as a sponsor of Dell World in Austin, Texas, from October 12-14.
